How the process works
- Tell us what you’re after. Send the firearm information or advertisement, part number or auction link.
- We confirm availability and cost. Once the firearm is located and the full landed cost is finalised, we proceed.
- We purchase in the USA. We deal with the seller, dealers and export requirements on your behalf.
- We import and clear customs. Export permits, Australian import paperwork, freight and customs at both ends.
- Ready for release. Your firearm lands and is ready for transfer to you.
Frequently asked questions
What are the costs of importing a firearm from the USA?
Importing isn’t inexpensive or simple. There are real administration costs in both the US and Australia, transit costs, and the work of cutting through the bureaucracy on both continents. It makes sense for rare firearms, or Category C/D items you can’t buy domestically, but not for budget guns.
How long does it take to import a firearm?
Expect around six months from start to the firearm being ready for release in Australia, depending on category and how we consolidate the shipment. That covers US export permits, Australian paperwork (more involved for Cat C/D), freight within the US, and customs at both ends.
What details do I need to provide?
At minimum, the appropriate state licence and the ability to obtain a valid Permit to Acquire. Category C firearms have extra requirements depending on whether you’re a sports shooter or primary producer. We can work through Category D purchasing and custom builds for vertebrate pest controllers. Category H is largely the same, although we now have more compliance requirements under the new laws. Can I buy the firearm myself and have you import it?
You can, and we’ll organise the import. However, US export rules are strict and many sellers won’t deal with international buyers, so it’s usually smoother if we handle the whole transaction for you.
How do I buy from GunBroker, Guns America or Guns International?
Let us handle those platforms. Send us the link to the specific auction or listing and we’ll quote and organise the rest. For auctions, contact us at least three days before close so we can verify the seller.
Where can I look for firearms in the US?
Two good starting points: GunBroker (gunbroker.com) hosts most US firearm sales, new and used, with strong photos, seller ratings and both buy-it-now and auction formats; and Guns International (gunsinternational.com), a dealer-focused platform popular for collectibles and rarities. Big-box retailers and small gun shops are fine too. Just send us the link.
What about firearms auctions?
Specialist houses like Rock Island Auction and Morphys run regular collectible sales, and regional auctions via Proxibid and Invaluable can turn up undervalued and rare firearms. It’s easiest if we bid on your behalf, although we can take over post-purchase. Reach out if something catches your eye. Just allow for auction fees and shipping on top of the hammer price.
